It
seems as though everyone with a digital camera and a 1394 card
thinks that they can capture movies and upload them to the web
with a high rate of success. Although we recognize that it is
possible for the amateur photographer to get movies up on the
web with little effort, and in very high quality. They pay for
it in the finished file sizes.
They are either huge (I have seen some that are well
over 15Megs per minute) or if they are compressed to
a reasonable file size, the end quality of the video is terrible.
Blurry or thumbnail sized and if you attempt to view them at
200%, they pixelate terribly.
After 4 years of working with a huge number of compression settings,
we have found a balance between our professional hardware/software
and compression settings to be able to create movies that are
of very high quality, with very manageable file sizes. We can
also provide both broadband & dial up sizes for our customers,
which in turn, allows them to provide their customers with a
higher degree of flexibility.
In order to demonstrate the quality of the finished product
we decided to include this small samples page. The captures
are taken directly from a DVD provided by one of our customers,
and the mini DV quality is comparable in quality.
There is a slight decrease in quality from a VHS tape as this
analog format is already of a low quality, and compressing it
further does have a small effect. (It isn't as easily
viewable in full screen mode).
